Food Booths 2009
The Town and Country Market’s parking lot will feature several booths serving hot food specialties from various regions of China. Have a plate (or two, or three) of homemade dumplings or fried rice or something else delicious. Donations gratefully accepted.
The food booths will be open on Festival Day (Feb. 8) from 11am.
Local restaurants and Town and Country generously donate their time, ingredients, expertise, and staff to bring you this very special food experience!
T and C is located at 343 East Winslow Way.
FOODS FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR
Certain foods are traditionally associated with Chinese New Year, either because of their shape, size, or sound associations. For example, long noodles represent a long life. Ginko nuts, because of their shape, represent silver ingots. A whole chicken signifies family togetherness. And the words for dry bean curd sound similar to the words for fulfillment, wealth, and happiness Another food tradition is to present, but not eat, a whole fish the evening before Chinese New Year. This symbolizes the wealth that left over from the old year, and carried into the new.
